Kyle Hogarth, MD, is Professor of Medicine; Director, Bronchoscopy; Co-Director, Lung Cancer Screening Program and \Medical Director, Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program at University of Chicago Medicine. In addition to being a world-renowned expert in pulmonology, Dr. Hogarth is involved with the minimally invasive diagnosis, management, staging and treatment of lung cancer through bronchoscopy.
Dr. Hogarth was one of the first doctors in Illinois to work with the superDimension system — an electromagnetic navigation system that uses 3-D imaging technology to detect and biopsy nodules and masses. He was the first physician in the region to utilize the Auris Monarch platform, a robotic bronchoscope that allows deeper access to the lung without surgery. He uses endobronchial ultrasound to biopsy lymph nodes, place stents in cancerous airways, and perform all other minimally invasive techniques to help patients with lung cancer.
Dr. Hogarth was the first physician in Illinois to perform bronchial thermoplasty, an FDA-approved technique to treat severe asthma. He has done the most cases in the US and has authored numerous publications on this topic. He was also the first physician in Illinois to perform Bronchoscopic Lung Volume Reduction (bLVR) for severe emphysema using the Zephyr valve. Dr. Hogarth’s experience with breakthrough technologies has been invaluable to ASP Health.
In addition to his clinical and research work, Dr. Hogarth is on the editorial board for Chest — The Journal of the American College of Chest Physicians and the Proceedings of the American Thoracic Society. He is also a manuscript reviewer for European Respiratory Journal, Lung Cancer, Respiratory Research and 12 other journals. Dr. Hogarth is the past president of the Society for Advanced Bronchoscopy.
Dr. Hogarth’s expert perspective on the needs of the practicing pulmonologist have contributed greatly to the evolution of our automated sample prep platform, and we are grateful for his ongoing collaboration.
